The Miwok Livery
Show Team
The Team swept the top ribbons this summer at Baywood, Napa and Spring Down, impressing judges with grace and perfect equitation honed through lots of hard work and practice. Pack a picnic and come watch these amazing kids!

Sixteen Show Team riders participated in the Livery’s new Leadership student teaching program this summer – a sort of graduate school for Counselors In Training. The Leaders rode in advanced classes in the morning, then worked as student instructors in the camps under the Livery staff. They also studied in the classroom, with drills and exercises to develop their teaching and communication skills.

Allison Fritz, Devon Huntsman, Daara Jalili, Isabella Jaye, Taylor Kinney, Mari Lillestol, Eugenie McLachlan, Andi
Meislin, Monica Milstein, Andi Selby; Kayla Sponza, and Rebecca Unruh.
Dr. Boyd was one of the equine instructors for the Leadership program. Here are some of his comments on teaching the classes this summer:
“We horses kept things interesting for the kids by not always halting right on time, or adding an extra quick step during a trot. After all, you have to horse around a little bit. During the lunging lesson, of course, I’d just act dumb and run around as I pleased, and cut across the arena until the students got their act together and started to work as a team to give me coherent and consistent directions.
My stable mates and I were proud to see how the students teaching techniques, self-confidence and communication skills developed. They showed creativity and initiative by devising scavenger hunts and vaulting routines to keep the camp fun and informative for the younger riders. We horses all look forward to doing it again next summer, but for right now I gotta go, there is a blade a grass over there that looks inviting…”
